What to Look for in a Waterloo Moving Company

By: Heather @ 3:52 pm

Just because a friend of a friend has a pickup truck doesn’t mean you should rely solely on them when moving to, or from Waterloo. You’re going to want to hire a professional Waterloo moving company with a proven track record of success who you can trust to ensure a stress-free move. There are many moving companies offering their services in Waterloo, yet it can be difficult to determine which is the best choice. To help you in your search, we have compiled a list of some of the top qualities to look for in a Waterloo moving company.

Years of Service

When you are looking for a Waterloo moving service, experience counts. Make sure you pay attention to a company’s track record because it demonstrates their ability and willingness to deliver every time. While insurance may cover the monetary value of certain objects, nothing can replace the value of sentimental items, such as your child’s hand painting or old family photos. As a result, it’s best to choose a moving company with years of successful moving experience. When you work with a company with experience, you can rest assured your property will be handled with the utmost care and respect, and your items transported in a safe and secure manner.

Successful Moves

The number of successful moves a company has, is as equally important as the number of years a moving service has been in business. When you’re choosing your Waterloo moving company, make sure you ask about the number of successful moves they’ve accomplished. If a mover claims 10 years of service but has only 10 successful moves, you should be wary of this type of ratio. Instead, it’s best to choose a mover with multiple years in the business and a sufficient number of successful moves as well.

Quality of Fleet

Just as you wouldn’t want to ride in a dilapidated taxi, your furniture and belongings shouldn’t be transported in unstable and broken down vehicles. When you are choosing a Waterloo moving company, make sure you pay attention to the quality of the moving trucks and equipment. In addition, the quality of fleet speaks volumes about the integrity and level of business the Waterloo moving service conducts. Any reputable business will perform proper maintenance and ensure their equipment is presentable. Old, dirty, and damaged equipment communicates the level of pride the mover has in their business.

When choosing a Waterloo moving company, it’s imperative the mover has sufficient insurance. While choosing a group of guys who move furniture as a side job may seem like the economical choice, it could cost you more in the end if your stuff is damaged. On the other hand, an insured mover will be able to offer the replacement value in the event your personal belongings are damaged in the move.

Undoubtedly, professionalism is a necessary facet of the Waterloo moving company you choose. When you call the company, will a secretary answer the phone from an office or will you have to yell over children screaming in the background when you speak to the mover. If there are hiccups in the move, will the mover call you back or will you have to take them to court to reconcile your differences? In other words, is your mover professional and do they communicate professionalism in all of their work? When you are choosing a Waterloo moving company, you shouldn’t substitute professionalism for a seemingly cheap price.

Things to Consider When Hiring an International Moving Service

By: Heather @ 3:51 pm

When you’re looking for an international moving company, it can be an extremely stressful process. Most people don’t have experience finding an international moving service and do not know where to start. In this case, what you don’t know can hurt you. If you were to choose the wrong mover, your international moving experience could be an international nightmare. Instead of tackling this process without sufficient knowledge, the following information explains a few important facets to consider when hiring an international moving service.

Beware of the Internet

Although a staggering 89% of consumers use Internet search engines to make purchasing decisions, the Internet isn’t the best place to start searching for an international moving service. Several of the movers who advertise on the Internet are either brokers, middlemen or they are unlicensed. If you are considering using a mover you found on the web, you should always verify their license and insurance through your provincial government’s consumer protection agency. In addition, you can check the mover’s reputation through the Better Business Bureau (BBB). After you are sure the business is reputable, you should check to see how long it has been in business.

International Moving Estimates

Moving to another country can undoubtedly be expensive. In addition, the most frequent complaint made against international movers are unexpected fees and being overcharged. To overcome these potential pitfalls, it’s imperative you have a thorough understanding of all potential charges you will be expected to pay. When you meet with an international moving service, make sure you receive a full estimate along with a list of the necessary equipment needed to facilitate the move.

International Moving Experience

Not all international moving services are created equally, which makes it important to know how to differentiate credible businesses from the ones you should steer clear of. One way you can simplify your decision is by interviewing and asking potential movers the right questions. One of the top questions you should ask is where the mover has shipped previously. If a potential mover doesn’t have experience shipping to your respective location, they may not be the best choice. It’s important for your international moving service to have explicit knowledge about the area you will be moving. A mover experienced in your relative country will be privy to the best practices and be able to help you avoid moving pitfalls. This will help make your move as smooth as possible and alleviate some of the stress.

Professional Moving Associations

In Canada, two of the top professional associations for international moving services are the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) and the International Association of Movers (IAM). For an international moving service to become a member of CAM, they must have been in business for at least two years and submit several documents, such as an insurance certificate showing at least $1 million liability and a cargo limit minimum of $250,000. The International Association of Movers is a global professional coalition of moving, shipping, forwarding, and supply companies. Membership in this association represents the highest level of commitment to the customers. When you are looking for an international moving service, you should check whether the mover is an active member of these two professional associations.

With over 70 years of industry experience, Westmount Moving and Warehousing provides friendly and experienced staff to help facilitate your move. Whether you’re moving across town or across the pond, Westmount Moving and Warehousing is here to make your move as simple and enjoyable as possible.

Looking for a Waterloo Storage Solution? Westmount Moving Can Help!

By: Heather @ 3:49 pm

In the United States, one in every 11 households rents self-storage space, equating to 2.3 billion square feet of stationary bikes, boxes of books and furniture that will never see the light of day again. That’s “78 square miles of rentable storage space… or 7.3 square feet of self-storage space for every man, woman and child in the country,” according to the Self Storage Association, the industry’s official trade organization.

Canadians don’t clamor for clutter reduction to quite the same extent, nor are we as mobile a nation in terms of changing residences. Nonetheless, the opportunity to store goods outside the home is a great convenience, and it’s one we’re taking increasing advantage of. According to 2013’s 4th Quarter reporting figures, there are now more than 3,000 storage facilities in Canada.

If you’re a resident – or are about to become a resident – of the Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo Tri-Cities area, and you’re looking for a storage solution, Westmount Moving can help. We have the Waterloo storage solution you need.

You don’t have to be! You can stay right where you are, yet still give your home a fresh lease on life by reducing muddles and mess. The best way is by working with Westmount Moving, and taking advantage of our Waterloo storage solution packages.

We’ve been providing services to the good people of the Tri-Cities for approaching eight decades, and are most commonly referred to locally as “Westmount Moving.” That, however, isn’t our full business name. In fact, we’re Westmount Moving and Warehousing, the latter catch-all adjective in fact describing two operations; warehousing and storage.

Primarily, the warehousing function serves businesses seeking either short- or long-term commercial storage needs. As well, our Waterloo storage solutions are set up to serve individuals and families too. We can accommodate everything from a few pieces of furniture, which need a berth for a few days while a local move takes place, through to an entire office building’s furniture and equipment. Of course, we serve the specific needs of those customers using our commercial and residential moving services as well.

Our highly skilled movers can take over every aspect of a commercial move to storage. One call and our teams can:

  • Box up items
  • Transport items to our government-approved warehouse
  • Shrink-wrap the boxes to pallets
  • Store safely & securely until you decide to pick-up your items

Our warehouse is climate controlled, protected against fire by building-wide sprinkler systems, and equipped with high-tech security and alarm installations. We use palletizing rack storage, and our staff carry out ongoing inventories of all goods in our care. This ensures we know the exact location of everything we’ve been trusted with, on any given day.

You’ll always have access to your property when you work with Westmount Moving and Warehousing.

When your need for storage is at an end, you’re able to collect your goods yourself, all we require is notice of your planned arrival and we will have your items ready for pick-up. As well, we can arrange to have our movers deliver and unpack your items for you as an added convenience. At Westmount Moving, excellent customer service is among our highest priorities.  Find out how Westmount Moving won the 2013 Reader’s Choice Awards for best moving company (at, a daily online newspaper serving Kitchener-Waterloo), and you’ll realize the benefit of choosing us for your Waterloo moving and storage needs.

But remember, Westmount Moving is far more than just a moving company. We have enough space at our Waterloo warehouse to accommodate almost any amount of commercial goods, and our specialist staff will work with you to ensure your exact needs are catered to. Start the process by calling us today at (519) 895-1100, or use our convenient Contact Us form.

World Food Day is Everyday

By: Heather @ 2:30 pm

According to the Canadian Health Calendar, World Food Day is on October 16th. While this day has passed, that doesn’t mean that we should be any less aware of how many people need food, water and basic everyday supplies that we often take for granted. At Westmount Moving and Warehousing we understand this need and try to be as involved in our community as possible, whether it is donating money or lending a helping hand. As a proud part of the Kitchener-Waterloo community, we wanted to bring attention to the Food Bank of the Waterloo region. On October 17th (and on other dates as well) they will be donating food and supplies to families in need.

They are currently searching for volunteers to assist in the following tasks:

  • Drivers and assistants to help with scheduled pick-ups (the drivers must have G license and a clean driving record).
  • Volunteers are needed in the warehouse as food support assisting the food team with moving product.
  • Also needed is general warehouse work with forklift experience being an asset.
  • Lastly, food quality control including corporate and perishable food sorting.

Get your Kids in Gear!

By: Heather @ 7:50 pm

Get your Kids in Gear!Let’s face it, Canada loves hockey. We love to watch it, play it, talk about it, laugh about it and even yell about it (sometimes). Hockey is in our blood and we love it. However, sometimes those who want to play hockey simply cannot afford it. Skates, padding, jersey, shorts, helmet, protection, hockey sticks…you name and the price goes up and up. Many children watch their idols skate around on TV and want to be like them. Because of the cost, this dream of playing the sport they love to watch is sometimes not a possibility for many children. However, there are programs to change all that.

The Sun Life Financial Kids in Gear program is just one. This 2013-14 season Sun Life Financial with assist with the collection and also the purchase of hockey equipment for the children who need a bit of help to play this wonderful game. The program kicks off Monday Oct 7th and runs until Sunday, Oct 19th at various locations around Kitchener-Waterloo. Drop off sites include the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium and Sun Life Financial offices around the region. If you wish to contribute new or gently used hockey equipment, please find the donation bin closest to you.

You can also drop off your gear at Kitchener Rangers home games on October 11th, 14th and 18th.
