Moving Antiques & Collectibles

Moving Antiques

Before your move

At Westmount Moving, we know how much your antique belongings and collectibles mean to you. For this reason, we make sure that a moving consultant visits your home to assess your entire antique collection, and works with you to develop a safe and responsible moving plan. When one of our moving professionals comes to assess your antiques, be sure to point out all of your unique items and collectibles that may require special handling, such as family heirlooms, valuable antiques, fragile porcelain, etc.

Your individual moving consultant will arrange for each of your items to be moved with extreme care, and will ensure that they arrive at your destination in the condition they left in.

Protection Plans

It is always a good idea to invest in a suitable protection plan to cover any unforeseen circumstances that may damage your antiques and precious items. When meeting with your moving consultant, be sure to discuss your options and review the amount and type of valuation you will need in order to provide adequate coverage for your valuables. Items of high value should be documented on the inventory taken of your household goods (This applies to long distance or cross-border moves).

Protecting Your Antiques

At Westmount Moving, you can be assured that we will always handle your antiques and collectibles with the highest level of care. We custom build wooden crates for your unique antique goods that allow for the highest level of protection and ensure that your items are secure in the truck. As well, we also use packing wrap to make sure you’re smaller, loose items do not move around during transportation. Antiques can also be packed in crates with padding, using stretch wrap and even decked in the truck so that they are not in contact with other items.

Loose parts of furniture should always be secured before packing; and any hardware, screws, bolts, and other components are to be stored in bags and inserted in a box labeled "Parts Box". Doors need to be safely secured with straps or strings to prevent them from opening during transportation. Any mirrors or glass panels shall be taped and secured with stretch wrap and extra padding to ensure stability and protection.

Collectibles such as crystal glassware, china, and porcelain are always to be placed in specialized containers wrapped in tissue to ensure optimal protection. All cartons containing breakables should be labeled "FRAGILE."
